Our approach is different. Every tile project starts with substrate assessment: checking the subfloor for deflection, flatness, and moisture. We use self-leveling compound where the floor is uneven, apply uncoupling membranes on wood subfloors to prevent cracking, and set every tile using laser levels and back-buttering technique for full thinset coverage. That prep work is invisible once the tile is down, but it is the reason our installations stay solid for years instead of months.

FLOOR TILE INSTALLATION

Floor tile takes the most abuse of any surface in your home: foot traffic, furniture, dropped objects, moisture from entryways. The subfloor underneath has to be flat, rigid, and properly prepared to handle it. We install porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, and large-format tiles on floors throughout kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, laundry rooms, and basements.

Every floor installation starts with a subfloor inspection. We check for low spots, high points, squeaks, and deflection. Self-leveling compound goes down where the floor is uneven. On wood subfloors, we install Schluter Ditra uncoupling membrane to absorb movement and prevent cracked tiles and grout. We plan the layout before cutting a single tile. Starting rows, centring lines, and transition points are all decided during the dry-fit so the finished floor looks intentional, not like someone started in a corner and hoped for the best.

SHOWER & BATHROOM TILE

Shower tile is the one place where installation mistakes show up fast. Water finds every gap, every unsealed corner, every spot where the membrane was not lapped correctly. We install Schluter Kerdi waterproofing membrane on all shower walls and pans before any tile goes up. Seams are overlapped, corners get pre-formed Kerdi corners, and the entire assembly is tested before we start setting tile.

We build custom shower niches for shampoo and soap storage, recessed into the wall framing and fully waterproofed before tiling. Shower benches are framed, waterproofed, and tiled to match the surround. Accent bands, border tiles, and pattern changes are planned during the layout phase so everything lines up at corners and transitions. Whether it is a simple tub surround or a full walk-in shower with a linear drain, the waterproofing and tile work are done to the same standard.

KITCHEN BACKSPLASH

A backsplash protects the wall behind your countertop from grease, water, and food splatter, and it is one of the first things people notice in a kitchen. We install subway tile, mosaic, natural stone, and large-format porcelain panels as backsplashes. The work involves precise cuts around outlets, switches, and cabinet lines. We plan the layout so tile is centred on the focal wall, and cuts at the ends are symmetrical. Grout colour is matched to complement the tile and countertop. For areas directly behind the stove, we recommend porcelain or ceramic for easy cleaning. Natural stone needs sealing and is harder to maintain in high-grease zones.

MATERIALS WE WORK WITH

Porcelain vs. ceramic: both are fired clay tiles, but porcelain is fired at a higher temperature and has a denser body. That makes it harder, more water-resistant, and better suited for floors, showers, and outdoor use. Ceramic is lighter, easier to cut, and works well for backsplashes and low-traffic walls. Porcelain costs more per square foot, but it holds up better in high-traffic and wet areas.

Large-format tile: 12x24, 24x24, and larger. Fewer grout lines mean a cleaner, more modern look. But large tiles are less forgiving of an uneven subfloor. The prep work has to be precise, and the thinset coverage has to be complete. We use a levelling system with large-format tiles to keep lippage (height differences between adjacent tiles) to a minimum.

Natural stone: marble, travertine, and slate. Natural stone has character that manufactured tile cannot replicate, but it requires sealing and more careful maintenance. We recommend natural stone for vanity walls, fireplace surrounds, and accent areas rather than shower floors where soap scum and moisture are constant.

Schluter waterproofing systems: Kerdi membrane for shower walls, Ditra uncoupling membrane for floors over wood subfloors, Kerdi-Band for seams, and pre-formed Kerdi corners. These are the industry standard for tile waterproofing, and we use them on every wet-area project.

Grout types: sanded grout for joints 1/8 inch and wider (most floor tile), unsanded grout for narrow joints and polished stone (to avoid scratching the surface), and epoxy grout for areas that need stain resistance and waterproofing (shower floors, kitchen backsplashes behind the stove).
